
Jim Crowley rode more than 300 winners over jumps before making the switch to the Flat in 2006. He has justified that decision and more as he has now had more than 2000 winners and was champion jockey in 2016. Crowley has been lead rider for Sheikh Ahmed Al Maktoum for more than five years. He is probably best known for his association with the rapid Battaash, often referred to as the fastest horse in the world.

The most famous jockey in the world has been delighting racing fans for more than three decades. Frankie Dettori shows brilliance on the track and charisma off it. The Milan-born superstar has ridden many great champions and won big races in no fewer than 24 countries. His bulging CV includes more than 500 Group-race triumphs, including the Derby twice and the Oaks on no fewer than six occasions including last year on board Snowfall.

The three-time champion jockey Ryan Moore has won every British and Irish Classic Classic at least once. His bulging CV is also decorated by wins in the Prix de lâArc de Triomphe, Japan Cup, Melbourne Cup, Hong Kong Vase, Hong Kong Cup and Breedersâ Cup Turf. He has won the Oaks here at Epsom on three occasions but the Derby is one of the only major races he has yet to win.

William Buick is a Derby-winning jockey who is building a reputation as one of the finest horseman in the business. He had already enjoyed big-race glory around the world before being employed by Godolphin the main man for trainer Charlie Appleby. That alliance led to him partnering Masar to Derby glory four years ago. The likes of Creative Force, Adayar, Hurricane Lane, Native Trail, and Saffron Beach helped him some memorable wins last year and he also landed a historic Breeders’ Cup treble with Modern Games, Yibir, and Space Blues.

William Haggas is one of Britainâs most respected trainers and has been sending out winners from his Somerville Lodge base in Newmarket since 1987. Haggas is among the elite band of trainers to have saddled the winner of both the Derby and Oaks here at Epsom. Charlie Appleby was an unknown to many racing fans when he was chosen to succeed the disgraced Mahmood Al Zarooni as Godolphinâs trainer in 2013. However, he had already been working for Sheikh Mohammedâs Godolphin operation for 15 years and when presented with the chance he has grasped it with both hands. He has already tasted victory twice in the Epsom showpiece with Masar in 2018 and Adayar twelve months ago en route to becoming Champion Trainer for a first time.

One horse that is sure to be popular in the Derby betting will be Reach for the Moon, owned by Queen Elizabeth. The prospect of a winner for the Queen during the celebrations for her Platinum Jubilee weekend is sure excite many.
She has enjoyed winners in both The Oaks and the 2,000 Guineas, but is yet to witness one of her horses achieve success in this historic contest. There has been plenty of support in the ante-post betting for the John Gosden-trained colt who cruised to victory in the Group Three Solario Stakes at Sandown last year.
An interesting name in the betting for the Oaks is the Joseph OâBrien-trained Above The Curve. This well-regarded American filly has been running full of promise in her debut season. Joseph has made the step from jockey to trainer with seeming ease and he might have the chance with this mount to claim his first classic winner at Epsom.
